Cat. #002034: COLE PORTER

Rare vintage black fountain pen signature on the verso of a personal check made out to him in 1946 by character actor Monty Woolley, with whom he had an important association. In good condition, with numerous bank cancellation marks, most of which are away from the writing. Composer, lyricist and wordsmith Cole Porter created an endless string of popular standards for hit shows like "Nymph Errant" (1933), "Anything Goes" (1934), "Dubarry Was a Lady" (1939), "Panama Hattie" (1940), "Kiss Me, Kate" (1948), "Can-Can" (1953), "Silk Stockings" (1954), and "High Society" (1955).
