Cat. #00299111121: BASIL RATHBONE

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Handsome vintage 8x10-inch sepia-tone matte-finish portrait, neatly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen in the early 1930s. In fine condition for its age, with small bends to the corner tips, a tiny bit of paper loss to the bottom border, and a small, light fleck embedded in the image itself, to the left of his head. Dashing South African leading man Basil Rathbone, best known for his longtime portrayal of Sherlock Holmes, made several noteworthy contributions to the horror genre. He was unforgettable as Baron Wolf de Frankenstein in Son of Frankenstein (1939), the Duke of Gloucester in Tower of London (1939), Montague Hartely in The Black Cat (1941), Sir Joel Cadman in The Black Sleep (1956), Carmichael in Tales of Terror (1962), John F. Black in The Comedy of Terrors (1963), Dr. Farraday in Queen of Blood (1966), Reginald Ripper in The Ghost in the Invisible Bikini (1966), Gregor in Hillbillys in a Haunted House (1967), and Perez in Autopsia de una Fantasma (1968).
