Cat. #003101121: GEORGES RENAVENT

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Exceptionally rare signature and handwritten address in black fountain pen, given to an acting agent on the back of an 8x10-inch balck and white publicity portrait for the 1920 stage production "Genius and the Crowd." A small chip to the bottom left-hand corner tip; an electronic label made by a memorabilia company that offered this item several years ago, passing through a small patch of the written address; and a previous owner's rubber stamp top the verso; otherwise, in good condition. Just the second example we have encountered in over 35 years! Terrific Georges Renavent was a dashing leading man on stage and in silent films, but, as he aged, he was increasingly relegated to character roles, playing doctors, royals, captains, bosses, military men, police officers, waiters, ambassadors, and exotic foreigners in scores of classic films. His long list of memorable credits includes The Magnificent Lie (1931), Queen Christina (1933), Moulin Rouge (1934), The House of Rothschild (1934), The Merry Widow (1934), Folies Bergere (1935), Anna Karenina (1935), Captain Blood (1935), horror's The Invisible Ray (1935), The Charge of the Light Brigade (1936), Charlie Chan at Monte Carlo (1937), Jezebel (1938), The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938), Gold Diggers in Paris (1938), Topper Takes a Trip (1938), Mr. Moto's Last Warning (1939), The Three Musketeers (1939), Lady of the Tropics (1939), Pack Up Your Troubles (1939), Back Street (1941), That Hamilton Woman (1941), The Great Lie (1941), That Night in Rio (1941), Road to Zanzibar (1941), Sullivan's Travel (1941), Perils of Nyoka (1942), I Married an Angel (1942), Now, Voyager (1942), Casablanca (1942), The Tiger Woman (1944), Till We Meet Again (1944), Rhapsody in Blue (1944), Tarzan and the Leopard Woman (1946), The Catman of Paris (1946), Of Human Bondage (1946), Rope of Sand (1949), Strangers on a Train (1951), and Because You're Mine (1952).
