Highly scarce vintage inscribed turquoise fountain pen signature on a 4x6-inch off-white card, acquired in-person by inveterate collector john Virzi, probably in the early 1960s, and decorated with a magazine image. In good condition, with a square-shaped block of toning to the upper right-hand corner-- left by a photo affixed to a card pressed against it in a scrapbook-- and toning to two corners, where photo mounts had been applied. Unaccountably, this is one of only a small handful of autographed we have ever encountered of prolific character actor Addison Richards, who appeared in nearly 400 films and television programs over 30 years. While you might not know his name, you sure know his face! He played scores of cops, detectives, wardens, military men, lawyers, judges, physicians, and other authority figures in films like The Petrified Forest (1936), Boys Town (1938), The Gracie Allen Murder Case (1938), They Died with Their Boots On (1941), Flying Tigers (1942), The Pride of the Yankees (1942), Crime Doctor (1943), Spellbound (1945), Leave Her to Heaven (1946), High Society (1955), and The Ten Commandments (1956). He made a handful of notable contributions to the horror, sci-fi and fantasy genres, most notably The Walking Dead (1936), Man with Two Lives (1942), The Mad Ghoul (1943), The Mummy's Curse (1944), Strange Confession (1945), Angel on My Shoulder (1946), Mighty Joe Young (1949), and The Flight That Disappeared (1961).
