Cat. #0031162: MAY ROBSON

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Scarce and extremely early vintage 6.75 x 8.5-inch black and white portrait by Walters Studios of Seattle, boldly signed in black fountain pen in the early 1930s. In good condition for its age, with a mild crease to the lower left-hand corner tip. Few character actresses of Hollywood's Golden Age rivaled May Robson at playing crusty, gruff, domineering society matrons and elder relatives. Oscar-nominated for her portrayal of Damon Runyon's Apple Annie in Frank Capra's Lady for a Day (1933), she was also memorable in The King of Kings (1927), The Angel of Broadway (1927), Little Orphan Annie (1932), Alice in Wonderland (1933), Mills of the Gods (1934), Anna Karenina (1935), A Star Is Born (1937), The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1938), Bringing Up Baby (1938), Nurse Edith Cavell (1939), Four Wives (1939), and Four Mothers (1941).
