Cat. #0031341: CHARLIE RUGGLES

Uncommon vintage blue ballpoint pen signature on a 4x6-inch light blue autograph album page, acquired in-person in the early 1950s. In fine condition for its age and suitable for matting with a favorite photograph. The elder brother of director Wesley Ruggles, Charlie Ruggles was a beloved comic talent in film and on television for over five decades. He sputtered, stumbled and clucked as meek, easily flustered men in classic films like Trouble in Paradise (1932), Ruggles of Red Gap (1935), Bringing Up Baby (1938), and A Stolen Life (1946). On television, he went uncredited as the voice of Aesop in the "Aesop and Son" segment of "The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show" (1959-1964); played Lowell Farquhar, the father of Mrs. Drysdale and Granny's unwilling love object on "The Beverly Hillbillies" (1962-1971); and portrayed warlock Hedley Partridge, who wooed Marion Lorne's Aunt Clara on "Bewitched" (1964-1972).
