Cat. #003202211: VIRGINIA SALE

Scarce black ink signature on a 1960s first day cover (FDC), with a cachet honoring American women. In good condition. Note that the image of the star shown here alongside the scan of the signed item is not included. The sister of vaudeville headliner Charles "Chic" Sale, willowy stage and screen character actress Virginia Sale played efficient secretaries, well-coiffed socialites or neighborhood busybodies in over 200 films, including The Crowd (1928), What a Life (1930), Her Majesty Love (1931), Oliver Twist (1933), The Man with Two Faces (1934), Madame Du Barry (1934), Topper (1937), Charlie Chan in Reno (1939), The Thin Man Goes Home (1944), and The Case of the Baby Sitter (1947). Increasingly active in television in her later years, she popped up in episodes of countless sitcoms, most memorably as relentless gossip Selma Plout on "Petticoat Junction" (1964-1969).
