Tough-to-acquire vintage 8x10-inch black and white portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in blue fine-tip pen in 1985. In good condition, with mild handling dings. After nearly a decade on stage and in forgettable supporting film roles, including the cult flick The Curse of the Living Corpse (1964), Roy Scheider earned an Oscar nomination for his role as Gene Hackman's partner, Buddy "Cloudy" Russo, in The French Connection (1971). He went on to play reluctant police chief Martin Brody in Stephen Spielberg's horror classic Jaws (1975), a role he would reprise in Jaws 2 in 1978. While generally pigeonholed as a tough-talking action star, he demonstrated remarkable versatility with his portrayal of a speed-fueled dancer in All That Jazz (1979), snagging a second Oscar nod, but then returned to formula with Blue Thunder (1983); the 2001: A Spacy Odyssey sequel, 2010 (1984); and 52 Pick-Up (1986). From 1993 to 1995, he starred on T.V.'s sci-fi series "SeaQuest DSV". His other credits include a mixed bag of dramas, fantasy films and thrillers, such as Marathon Man (1976), Sorcerer (1977), The Russia House (1991), Naked Lunch (1991), The Doorway (2000), and The Punisher (2004).
