The handsome supporting player of the 1930s, who was the longtime husband of Angela Lansbury, ultimately abandoned acting and became a successful film producer. He is remembered by horror buffs as Ernest Thesiger's stunt double in some of the best sequences of James Whale's Bride of Frankenstein (1935) and his autograph is among the most elusive of the film's many wonderful cast members.
