Extremely scarce handwritten sentiment and signature in fountain pen on a 1 x 4.5-inch portion of a letter on tan stationery, probably dating to the 1840s or early 1850s: "I am dear sir / Truly yours / M. W. Shelley".  In fine condition, with a mild vertical mailing fold to the center, and excellent for matting.  The English author, dramatist, essayist, and travel writer is best remembered for her Gothic horror masterpiece Frankenstein, or The Modern Prometheus (1818).  She died of a brain tumor at the age of 53 and signed material is virtually nonexistent in any format.  This is the only authentic example we've ever encountered.
