Extremely rare and much-sought after vintage glossy 8x10-inch black and white publicity portrait, boldly signed in black felt-tip pen in the 1980s. In fine condition, with scattered light surface dings. Just the fourth example we have seen in over 35 years. Handsome, baritone-voiced, steely-eyed theater and film actor Paul Shenar was typically cast in eccentric or villainous roles, perhaps most famously that of cold, calculating Bolivian drug lord Alejandro Sosa in Scarface (1983). It is for that film that his signature is so heavily prized. He was also memorable as Orson Welles in The Night That Panicked America (1975), about Welles' infamous 1939 Martian broadcast, and in films like Deadly Force (1983), Dream Lover (1986), Raw Deal (1986), The Bedroom Window (1987), and The Big Blue (1988) before his tragic death of A.I.D.S. at the age of 53. He was rumored to have been the lover of Sherlock Holmes actor Jeremy Brett.
