Cat. #0033131: SOJIN

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Absolutely impossible to find vintage green fountain pen signature on a 4x6-inch tan autograph album page, adding a self-caricature of himself as a scowling villain, acquired in-person in the late 1920s or early 1930s. In good condition and one of the only examples of his autograph we have ever encountered. Note that the image of the star shown alongside the scan of the autograph here is not included with the signed piece. Fantastic Japanese-born character actor and stage conjurer Sojin, who was born Sojin Kamiyama but only rarely acted under his full name, was one of the only Asian actors to portray the detective Charlie Chan, in 1927's The Chinese Parrot. However, he is best remembered for his portrayals of unsavory villains and exotic, mysterious types, as in The Thief of Bagdad (1924); The Bat (1926); Tod Browning's The Road to Mandalay (1926) with Lon Chaney, Sr.; The King of Kings (1927); The Haunted Ship (1927); The Streets of Shanghai (1927); The Man without a Face (1928); Seven Footprints to Satan (1929); Madame X (1929); The Unholy Night (1929); Manchu Love (1929); China Slaver (1929); and, later in life, The Seven Samurai (1954).
