Previously sold at RR Auction: RARE and very early 8x10-inch black and white Universal Studios portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen in the earliest days of her career, with a notation on the verso indicating that it was acquired in June of 1936, almost certainly in-person, while she was appearing in New Faces of 1936 at the Vanderbilt Theatre. In fine condition for its age, with some light creases and marks. Sad-eyed Margaret Sullavan was Oscar-nominated for Three Comrades (1938), and elsewhere memorable in Little Man, What Now? (1934), So Red the Rose (1935), The Moon's Our Home (1936), The Shopworn Angel (1938), The Shining Hour (1938), The Shop Around the Corner (1940), The Mortal Storm (1940), So Ends Our Night (1941), Cry 'Havoc' (1943), and No Sad Songs for Me (1950). She committed suicide by overdose at the age of 50 and her autograph is quite elusive in any format.
