Highly rare and quite early 3.25 x 5.5-inch sepia-tone postcard portrait, dating to his days as a Shakespearian theater actor, boldly signed in black fountain pen in the 1920s. In fine condition. Busy Indian-born stage, film and television character actor Torin Thatcher was typically cast as imposing, sinister, physically powerful villains. Highlights of his long career include Sabotage (1936), Major Barbara (1941), The Captive Heart (1946), Great Expectations (1946), The Fallen Idol (1948), The Crimson Pirate (1952), Blackbeard the Pirate (1952), The Snows of Kilimanjaro (1952), The Robe (1953), Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing (1955), Helen of Troy (1956), Witness for the Prosecution (1957), The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958), The Miracle (1959), Mutiny on the Bounty (1962), and Hawaii (1966). His television work was extensive, but he is especially remembered for appearances in classic episodes of "Perry Mason" (1961), "Star Trek" (1967) and "Gunsmoke" (1967).
