Highly scarce vintage 8x10-inch sepia-tone portrait, boldly signed in black fountain pen in the late 1940s or early 1950s. In very fine condition and superb for display. Luminous Swedish leading lady Marta Toren was lured from a stage career by Universal Studios, who cast her, to some acclaim, in Rospiggar (1942), Rogue's Regiment (1948), Casbah (1948), Sword in the Desert (1949), Spy Hunt (1950), Sirocco (1951) with Humphrey Bogart, and Assignment in Paris (1952). Following her marriage to director Leonardo Bercovici in 1952, she began accepting more demanding film roles in Italy, including Maddalena (1954), Casa Ricordi (1954), Carta a Sara (1956), and La Puerta Abierta (1957). Her promising career was tragically cut short by a fatal brain hemorrhage at the age of 31 and her autograph is quite elusive in any format.
