Highly rare vintage black fountain pen signature on a 1.5 x 4.5-inch biography, clipped from a Players Directory, boldly signed in-person for inveterate autograph hound Frances Zane in the early 1950s. In good condition. Charming Scottish stage and film actress Mary Ure was unforgettable in films like Look Back in Anger (1959), penned by first husband John Osborne; Sons and Lovers (1960), for which she was nominated for an Academy Award; the sci-fi drama The Mind Benders (1963); The Luck of Ginger Coffey (1964) and Custer of the West (1967), both alongside second husband Robert Shaw; and Where Eagles Dare (1968). Her career collapsed in the late 1960s, due to excessive drinking, and she died tragically of an overdose of alcohol and barbiturates at the age of 42. Her autograph is rather elusive in any format.
