Extremely rare vintage inscribed turquoise fountain pen signature on a 4.4 x 5.5-inch pink album page, acquired in-person in the 1950s. In good condition and just the fourth we've ever seen. Note that the image of the star shown here, alongside the scan of the autograph, is not included. Bald, cranky character actor Luis Van Rooten is probably best remembered as Mr. Johnson, the Kramdens' and Nortons' ever-exasperated landlord on T.V.'s "The Honeymooners" (1956). On the big screen, he created a wide variety of similarly hotheaded, unsavory characters, many of them outright villains or slick, shady suspects with vague foreign accents. His long list of memorable credits includes Two Years Before the Mast (1946), Beyond Glory (1948), Saigon (1948), The Big Clock (1948), Night Has a Thousand Eyes (1948), Champion (1949), Boston Blackie's Chinese Adventure (1949), Disney's Cinderella (1950), Detective Story (1951), and The Great Adventure (1953). Van Rooten made something of a specialty of impersonating notorious Nazi Heinrich Himmeler, as in in Hitler's Madman (1943), The Hitler Gang (1944) and Operation Eichmann (1961).
