Highly rare printed ballpoint pen signature on a 1x6-inch portion of a work document, dating to the 1950s. In good condition, beyond the unusual format, and just the third example of his autograph we have ever encountered.  Note that the image of the star shown alongside the autograph here is not actually included. Before his tragic suicide by overdose at the age of 53, swarthy-looking Dutch-born character actor Philip Van Zandt appeared in nearly 250 films, including So Ends Our Night (1942), Citizen Kane (1942), Nazi Agent (1942), Invisible Agent (1942), Hangmen Also Die! (1943), Old Acquaintance (1943), Shine on Harvest Moon (1944), The Hitler Gang (1944), Dragon Seed (1944), They Live in Fear (1944), The Very Thought of You (1944), House of Frankenstein (1944), Gilda (1946), Night and Day (1946), The Lady from Shanghai (1947), The Loves of Carmen (1948), Night Has a Thousand Eyes (1948), House of Strangers (1949), Cyrano de Bergerac (1950), Ghost Chasers (1951), Viva Zapata! (1951), Thief of Damascus (1952), Prisoners of the Casbah (1953), To Catch a Thief (1955), sci-fi's The 27th Day (1955), Sweet Smell of Success (1957), the Lon Chaney biopic Man of a Thousand Faces (1957), and The Pride and the Passion (1957).
