Rare and desirable vintage 8x10-inch black and white portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen in the 1940s. In good condition, with some chipping to the upper edge and the dedication reflecting some initial pen difficulty. Beautiful Martha Vickers abandoned a modeling career at the age of 18, lured to Hollywood to play Margareta, Vazec's daughter, in the horror classic Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1943). She was thereafter a B-movie scream queen and bad girl, memorable as Dorothy Colman in Captive Wild Woman (1943), Miss McLean in The Mummy's Hand (1944) and the thumb-sucking nymphet Carmen Sternwood in The Big Sleep (1946). The sultry, auburn-haired beauty died of cancer of the esophagus at age 46, and her autograph is highly uncommon in any format.
