Small but choice vintage signature in blue ballpoint pen on a roughly 3x4-inch tan slip, acquired in-perso in the early 1950s and nice for matting with a favorite photograph. In good condition, probably trimmed down from a larger page. Western and war film icon John Wayne was nominated for Academy Awards for Sands of Iwo Jima (1949) and The Alamo (1960) before winning for 1969’s True Grit in 1970. His was elsewhere unforgettable— always playing some slight variation on the same character, who was, arguably, himself— in Stagecoach (1939), Reap the Wild Wind (1942), Angel and the Badman (1947), Fort Apache (1948), She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949), Rio Grande (1950), The Quiet Man (1952), Hondo (1953), The Searchers (1956), The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962), The Longest Day (1962), How the West Was Won (1962), The Green Berets (1968), and The Cowboys (1972).
