Scarce and terrific vintage 8x10-inch black and white MGM publicity portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen in the 1930s. In fine condition, with a mild diagonal bend to the bottom right corner tip, and a tiny circular surface impression on his left temple, invisible when the photograph is viewed head-on. Five-time Olympic gold medal swimmer-turned-Hollywood film star Johnny Weissmuller was the sixth, and undoubtedly the most popular actor to portray Tarzan on the screen. A bit of trivia: It was Weissmuller who gave the character his trademark ululating jungle call. Later, he was also noteworthy as no-nonsense Jungle Jim in the 1948 "B" movie based upon the comic strip by "Flash Gordon" creator Alex Raymond.
