Cat. #00572: JOHNNY WEISSMULLER

Scarce and fantastic vintage 8x10-inch original 1930s M.G.M. portrait as a shirtless Tarzan, boldly signed and inscribed in blue ballpoint pen in 1951. In good condition, with minor edgewear, and accompanied by its certificate from its previous sale at RR Auction, where it fetched nearly $550. Five-time Olympic gold medal swimmer-turned-Hollywood film star Johnny Weissmuller was the sixth, and undoubtedly the most popular actor to portray Tarzan on the screen. A bit of trivia: It was Weissmuller who gave the character his trademark ululating jungle call. Later, he was also noteworthy as no-nonsense Jungle Jim in the 1948 "B" movie based upon the comic strip by "Flash Gordon" creator Alex Raymond.
