Cat. #00575312: ORSON WELLES

Sorry, this item has already been sold.

Scarce and unique vintage blue fountain pen signature, given in 1938, the year of his infamous "War of the Worlds" radio broadcast that scared the bejesus out of those who tuned in too late to know it wasn't a news announcement, on a 2.75 x 6.5-inch portion of an airmail envelope mailed from Radio Kex in Washington State during National Airmail Week. The bottom of the envelope was trimmed away and the corners decoratively diagnonally clipped by some previous owner; otherwise, in good condition for its age. Brilliant Orson Welles was Oscar nominated for directing and starring in Citizen Kane (1941), and shared a trophy with Herman J. Mankiewicz for the screenplay. Other highlights of his extraordinary career include The Magnificent Ambersons (1942); Journey Into Fear (1943); The Stranger (1946); Lady of Shanghai (1947); Confidential Report (1955); and Touch of Evil (1958).
